Who we are

What we do

We meet every Sunday for fellowship, teaching and worship.

We also get together during the week in small groups for coffee, dinners and encouragement. During these times we look at the Bible to better understand how it helps us to navigate life with all its challenges.

We want to share the greatest gift the world has received and how Jesus Christ is relevant to us today.

Being connected to our local community is important to us and we help where we can.

What we believe

Jesus is our compass. Navigating life with Jesus means:

  • A commitment to living and teaching the life that Jesus taught and lived empowered by the Holy Spirit.

  • A commitment to sharing our lives with other Christians and those who don’t know Jesus yet.

  • Our lives are Bible-based, Holy Spirit inspired and accountable to God.

History

The oldest church in the South Island, St Johns has stood as a steadfast symbol of heritage for over 175 years with deep roots in the Wakefield community.

Exploring faith

Our faith is centered on Jesus. As Christians, we believe Jesus died for our sins and as we surrender our lives entirely to Him, our relationship to God our Heavenly Father, is restored. In doing this we seek to live Holy Spirit-inspired lives based on the example of Jesus’ life on earth and so fulfill the Great Commission.
